Course Overview

Door supervisors play a critical role as the first point of contact between businesses and the public. To excel in this challenging position, it is essential to be well-trained and comply with legal requirements.

The working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry course is tailored for individuals aiming to secure a Security Industry Authority (SIA) license. This license is mandatory to work legally as a Door Supervisor (DS). Developed by  Highfield and QNUK, both recognized leaders in the security qualifications, this course aligns with the latest SIA standards and is designed by top security professionals.

Course Duration

Participants must complete:

  • 44 hours of classroom training
  • 9 hours of self-study

Course Pre-Requisites

Entry Requirements

Minimum Age: Candidates must be 18 years or older to register for the course.
First Aid Certification:

  • Candidates must possess a valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate that complies with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
  • The certificate must remain valid for at least 12 months from the course start date.

Before beginning the SIA Door Supervisor training, candidates must present their valid First Aid certificate to Sapphire Training Services.

Course Structure and Content

The SIA Door Supervisor course consists of four stages:

  • Self-Study
  • Theoretical Knowledge (delivered Face-to-Face)
  • Practical Assessment (Conducted Face-to-Face)
  • Multiple-Choice Examination (MCQ)

The course is delivered through four mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Principles of working in the private security industry
  • Unit 2: Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry
  • Unit 3: Application of conflict management in the private security industry
  • Unit 4: Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry

Assessment and Examination

To successfully pass the course, candidates must complete four multiple-choice e-assessments:

Unit 1: Principles of working in the private security industry

  • 72 Multiple Choice Question
  • Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes
  • Pass Mark: 51 

Unit 2: Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry

  • 50 Multiple choice Questions
  • Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Pass Mark: 35 

Unit 3: Application of conflict management in the private security industry

  • 20 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Pass Mark: 14 

Unit 4: Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry

  • 30 questions
  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Pass Mark: 24 

Examination & Resits

Exam Results: Results are typically available within 7 to 14 working days.

SIA Examination Requirements

 TWO passport-sized good quality colour photographs as normally specified for passports. There should be no headgear (except that worn for religious reasons) or sunglasses.

  • 1 item from group A; and 2 from Group B

 Group A

  • A passport that is signed, current, and valid
  • A Driving licence photocard and its paper counterpart issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland
  • A driving licence photocard issued by the DVLA in the UK
  • UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth
  • A UK biometric residence permit card

Group B

  • A bank or building society statement from the last 3 months, we will accept 2 statements, but only if they are from different banks or building societies.
  • A utility bill from the last 3 months (we will accept gas, electric, telephone landline, water, satellite TV or cable TV bills but not mobile phone bills)
  • Valid UK firearms license with photo
  • Signed valid UK paper driving license
  • Marriage certificate or Civil Partnership certificate, with translation if not in English
  • UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth, but not a photocopy
  • P45 or P60 tax statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months
  • 2nd Bank or building society statement issued to your current address from the last 3 months
  • Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months
  • Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in last 12 months
  • Letter from H.M. Revenue & Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, employment service, or local authority issued within the last three months. You can use more than one letter as long as each is issued by a different Government department or a different local authority
  • A credit card statement sent to your current address within the last three months. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different issuer
  • 2nd credit card statement from different provider
  • Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months
  • Child benefit book issued in last 12 months

Please Note:

Failure to bring valid original, correct identification and photographs as specified will result in delegate being removed from the relevant course and no examination!
